A fine pair of early 18th century Japanese porcelain models of a carp leaping the Lungmen Falls, Arita Kilns, circa 1730-1750. Made from a two-piece mould, the tail and fins were made separately and luted to the body. The carp is depicted in a dynamic pose bent at the tail forcing the body upwards, open mouthed with it`s Barbles pushed back to it`s eyes it is clearly struggling. Elaborately decorated in Oriental landscapes showing pagodas, gardens and bridges. Both vases have sustained heavy damage on one side which has been restored. Each vase has a very good undamaged side. Perfect for decorating as these vases are in ‘country house condition’.

A really fine pair of early 18th century Japanese richly decorated imari baluster vases. The very unusual decoration of cooing and Billing birds is most unusual. Lamped on hand-carved and water gilt wooden bases. Both vases have been fitted with antiqued brass plates with light fittings. Typical imari colours: Tomato red, blue, black, orange and gilt highlights. One of the vases is perfect the other has a hairline crack.The custom-made lampshades (Claremont fabric) may sold separately at an additional price.
