A fine pair of early 18th century Japanese porcelain models of a carp leaping the Lungmen Falls, Arita Kilns, circa 1730-1750. Made from a two-piece mould, the tail and fins were made separately and luted to the body. The carp is depicted in a dynamic pose bent at the tail forcing the body upwards, open mouthed with it`s Barbles pushed back to it`s eyes it is clearly struggling. It is decorated in underglaze blue, pale iron-oxide, red and gold. For similar examples: Christies London, Sale 12445, 6/07/2016, lot 9.
