The vase is of octagonal baluster form, boldly painted with rocks and large blossoming foliage composed around the entire body within stylized borders. A finely carved gilt wood and gesso console table dating from the last quarter of the seventeenth century. The curvature of the legs, paw feet and stretcher surmounted by an urn are suggestive of an Italian origin. Table top covered in antique red velvet, it may have once had a stone top. Overall a highly decorative and impressive quality piece.

Depicting Chinese courtiers wearing elaborate robes in a lush garden with exotic plants. including palm trees bearing coconuts, their trunks covered in ivy. Several comparable example at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Holland.
