Rare pair of late 17th Century Japanese powder blue globular vases of small proportions. This kind of decoration (solid blue background with overglaze gold decoration) is typical of Chinese porcelain. Japanese potters attempted to replicate it but with less success hence the rarity of this colour scheme. We only had one vase such as these before. An interesting fact: a leaf of one of the two vases has been painted in green enamel and it was most probably a mistake during the decorating process. Lamped for UK use with a handmade giltwood base and solid brass fitting; can be easily converted to EU or US Lampshades are not included Height excluding fitting: 34 cm

A fine George II mahogany veneered and gilt overmantel pediment mirror with cartouche surmount. The latter inset with a large pastoral landscape painting original to the entire overmantel. Dating ca 1750 in the English Rococo manner. The mirror plates original and not replaced. ‍Provenance: 1930’s Stair and Co label on the back.

Several comparable example at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Holland. Lamped and mounted on a hand carved and hand gilt wooden base, fitted with antiqued brass plate with UK fittings, brown silk flex and black UK plug. Can be converted for EU or US use. Lampshades are not included.
