A Continental Japanned trunk. Early 18th century. Decorated in the Japanese taste with elaborate lock escutcheon and solid brass handles. On ebonized bun feet. The large central front panel showing an Oriental landscape, decorated sides and the back painted with flowers. The top of the chest has been covered in green Morocco leather in the 19th century. The interior of the trunk is lacquered black with some gold speckling.
